The second International Scientific Conference

Under the patronage of Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Waad Mahmoud Raouf, President of Tikrit University, and with the support of Salahaddin Governorate and North Refineries Company, in coordination with the Director of the Natural Resources Research Center, the activities of the second International Conference on Renewable and Green Energy began today, Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Tikrit University. The conference carries the slogan "The Role of Renewable Energy Sources in Bridging the Gap in the Iraqi Energy Sector."

The conference started with the recitation of a verse from the Holy Quran, followed by the playing of the Iraqi national anthem and the Tikrit University anthem. Then, a speech was delivered by Professor Dr. Hassan Hussein Ibrahim, Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, on behalf of the University President. In his speech, he emphasized that "Tikrit University has been able, through the organization of scientific conferences for its colleges, to establish a sound scientific environment based on scientific research." He also emphasized the importance of developing renewable energy sources to achieve economic prosperity, sustainable development, and environmental protection, especially considering that the country is one of the environmentally polluted countries due to the wars it has witnessed, as well as natural phenomena such as desertification. He highlighted the importance of this conference, which will be one of the most significant events in the field of renewable energy, bringing together a select group of experts, academics, and researchers from various local and international universities and research institutions.

Afterwards, a speech was delivered by Mr. Sabbar Abdullah Saleh, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee, in which he stated that environmental pollution and harmful emissions are phenomena that pose a threat to the Iraqi economy and the livelihood of citizens. Consequently, this coincides with the government's orientation to support renewable energies, with one of its most important achievements being the signing of contracts to establish power stations using solar cells, as well as the development of short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans for this activity. He also mentioned the exploration of new prospects for renewable energies, including waste incineration and utilization, wind energy, and other forms of renewable energy.

Following that, a short video titled "Gaza in the Embrace of Tikrit University Conference" was screened.

The conference, which opened its proceedings in the Khawarizmi Hall, will continue for two days with the participation of 45 research papers, eight of which are from outside Iraq. The conference includes six axes, including solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy, associated gas energy, and waste recycling energy.

The conference also featured a scientific exhibition on renewable energy at the university stadium, where companies interested in this field gathered to showcase their products, share their experiences and services that have a positive impact on society and energy consumption in the country. The exhibition provides a great opportunity for sharing ideas and action plans with other companies and gaining clients and good job opportunities. The presence of decision-makers from both the government and private sectors, as well as investors and companies, presents a real opportunity for participating companies.
